What is the Alliance of North Carolina Black Elected Officials?
The Alliance of North Carolina Black Elected Officials is an effort to bring Black Elected Officials, important partners and those interested in public policy together from across the state to a two-day conference focused on increasing the commitment to empowerment and public policy that improves the African American community. The Voting Rights Act and the resulting increase in Black Elected Officials have led to us serving in positions at all levels of government. With that comes the expectation that we can more effectively advance the political agenda that provides improvements for our communities and our constituencies. That includes how well we do our jobs as elected officials and how well we are able to collectively advocate for our common needs.
Who is the Alliance?
Among those leaders in North Carolina who have committed to participate in this Alliance are Congressmen Mel Watt and G.K. Butterfield, former State Auditor Ralph Campbell, the NC Conference of Black Mayors, the NC Black Elected Municipal Officials, the NC Caucus of Black School Board Members, the NC Black County Officials and our partners, the NC NAACP State Conference of Branches, the NC Black Leadership Caucus, and the Triangle Urban League.
What is the Black Summit?
The Black Summit will be held April 23 through April 25 (Friday morning - Saturday afternoon). Friday will feature a major reception followed by a banquet with a nationally-known speaker (invited but yet to be confirmed). Break out sessions will be held both days.
Saturday will feature the Partnership Breakfast with a noted speaker and comments from key partner organization presidents. We envision movement toward a cooperative agenda and commitment to information sharing and clear communication that engages our full network of elected officials, partners and advocates in the empowerment of our communities.
